In 2001, Klara Silverstein commissioned multimedia artist Red Grooms—best known for his colorful depictions of vibrant urban street scenes—to create two Lower Manhattan pieces as a gift to Larry to celebrate his purchase of the World Trade Center. Grooms finished one piece that today hangs in Silverstein’s headquarters at 7 World Trade Center (opposite page). After 9/11, he passed on finishing the second piece. In 2017, Klara commissioned Grooms to create a piece featuring all the new towers that Silverstein had built Downtown.
