At the north and south ends of the main lobby are two works by sculptor Kenneth Snelson, who had collaborated with David Childs on the design of One World Trade Center’s massive spire. Both pieces em- ploy a tube-and-cable structural system that Snelson coined “tensegrity,” a melding of the words tension and integrity. “It turns out that they were tailor-made for the lobby,” says Silverstein. “They blended so well with Jamie Carpenter’s stainless-steel wall and Jenny Holzer’s installation.”
